Leads a team of technical Construction Defect claims professionals ensuring industry leading customer service experience through exceptional service, relationship building, talent training and development and superior claims outcomes.
Responsible for unit’s achievement of claim department goals established to realize the company’s strategic objectives.
Partner within department and cross-functional leadership to build agency/policyholder relationships and execute operational plans.
Promotes the results and success of the organization through advancement of direct reports.
Lead, direct, and develop staff in area of responsibility with an emphasis on talent management and succession planning in accordance with the company’s strategic direction.
Collaborate with claims management to develop and implement service strategies that meet or exceed the service levels committed to agents and policyholders.
Continuously coach and develop direct reports to conduct thorough investigations, assess coverage and liability, and build strong internal and external relationships.
Guide team in pursuing risk transfer, creating action plans, preparing large‑loss reporting, identifying early resolution opportunities, and maintaining accurate, timely loss reserves throughout the claim lifecycle reflecting probable ultimate exposure.
Analyze and interpret key performance indicators and other key metrics to identify claim trends and opportunities for improvement to meet department objectives.
Identify and implement loss cost and ALAE management methods designed to deliver quality claims results.
Monitor and ensure that claims are adjudicated in accordance with Amerisure claims best practices and litigation management guidelines and quality standards through claims quality assurance programs, including tracking compliance with internal control assessment requirements.
Partner with field marketing underwriting and risk management leaders to realize strategic and operational objectives.
Conduct quarterly audits of randomly selected, open, and closed files within assigned team.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctorate preferred
7 years of commercial claims experience including 5 years handling high exposure and complex commercial general liability (primary or excess/umbrella) litigated files and 3 years handling complex construction defect files
2 years of leadership experience
Extensive knowledge of current tort, contract, and coverage laws in multiple jurisdictions, including experience in TX, FL, SC, GA, and AZ
Ability to identify and elevate potential aggravated liability and direct resolution strategies to mitigate exposure
Extensive insurance coverage experience involving multiple policy years with variable jurisdictional allocation
Intermediate computer skills required including Microsoft Office Suite
Possesses a thorough understanding of general liability, pollution/professional liability, surety, reinsurance and subrogation/recovery claims
Demonstrates superior knowledge of claims situations and all aspects of coverage analysis and litigation management process
Ability to think strategically with supporting analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to deal with ambiguity
Strong leadership capability with experience in building and leading highly successful teams
Demonstrated successful ability to build positive relationships and partnerships within department, across the organization and with external customers
Ability to travel overnight and locally up to 15%.
