About this role
Role Overview
Manually sets up and adjusts machine tools and or loading instructions for computer numeric control (CNC) systems.
Provides support and skilled direction for Tool room machine operation
i.e. (Lathes / milling machines etc.).
Performs High skill level of welding for press tool die surfaces to A class standards.
Maintains Working dies to achieve form specifications on A class surfaces.
Assesses and Interprets Cad designs and replicate into the die surface and dimensional characteristics.
Supports design reviews to achieve dimensional accuracy and surface repeatability.
Ensures mature die A class performance into series production.
Provides Maintenance of A class surface performance to achieve nitriding stages.
Understands yield stress and tensile strength for making rework decisions on the press tools.
Understanding material flows relating to material surface oil levels and surface roughness.
Understanding material flows relating to gauge, hot or cold rolled and type of Zinc coating.
Supports production activities such as: quality reviews, pre-processes, and acts as stand-in for press operator.
Acts as production counterpart during slip breaks for release quality associates and press operators and supports other tasks and breaks, where needed.
Provides tool maintenance when needed to drive improvement for production processes.
Maintains the quality of parts through planned maintenance schedules, quality feedback and breakdown management.
Assesses panel quality to ensure production conformance of press tools.
Performs assessments for tooling improvement activities and first-off/ last-off reviews.
Ensures effective handovers are completed across every shift along with completing shift handover documentation to support the next shift.
Communicates and escalates topics appropriately to management team.
Maintains accurate data entry in applicable systems to ensure effective reporting for each work area.
Develops accurate records for all tool setting parameters in conjunction with best-in-class results.
Supports work area team through daily VPS activities to ensure adherence to VPS principles and encourages continuous improvement.
Provides tooling input into VPS sessions and Gemba meetings.
Uses tooling expertise to make appropriate decisions and carry out actions for tool maintenance (reactive and proactive).
Identifies needed tooling improvements based on first-off and last-off panel assessments.
Creates action plans to improve up-time and other improvement activities.
Understands and models VPS (Value Added Production System) Principles and concepts of Standard Work and Problem Solving.
Adheres to 5S and Safety Standards and Principles.
Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
AA/AS degree in a technical discipline; OR The equivalent of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred); OR Completion of Tech Scholar program.
3+ years of related experience in manufacturing processes and/or manufacturing engineering.
SC (or other) Department of Labor registered journeyman license as "Tool and Die", "Toolmaker", "Mold maker", "Press Tooling", "Tryout Tooling".
5+ years of MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Access).
5+ years of professional communication skills (written, verbal and presentation).
3+ years of knowledge of manufacturing processes pertaining to assigned parts and applicable systems.
3+ years of long and short-term project management skills.
3+ years of ability to use and apply statistical problem-solving methods to aid with process analysis.
3+ years of knowledge working with innovations and/or automation of manual manufacturing/logistics processes (preferred).
