Role Overview
- Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for provider evaluation
- Obtain and accurately document vital signs, height, weight, and chief complaints
- Review and update patient medical history, medication lists, and allergies
- Assist providers during examinations and in-office procedures
- Administer injections, immunizations, and medications as directed by the provider (per scope of practice)
- Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing as needed
- Prepare and sterilize instruments and maintain exam room cleanliness
- Provide patient education and explain treatment plans as instructed by the provider
- Ensure proper documentation of all clinical interactions in the EMR/EHR system
- Prepare and review patient charts prior to appointments
- Process prescription refills per provider protocol
- Coordinate referrals, authorizations, and follow-up appointments
- Respond to patient phone calls, messages, and portal inquiries
- Assist with prior authorizations and medical record documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely charting in compliance with HIPAA guidelines
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and notify management when stock is low
- Ensure compliance with infection control and safety standards
- Support front office staff as needed to maintain smooth patient flow
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff meetings
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
- Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred
- BLS/CPR certification preferred
- Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in a physician office or outpatient setting preferred
