NV5 is a global technology solutions and consulting services company seeking a Utilities Geospatial Solutions Engineer to deliver GIS solutions across various utility sectors. The role involves implementing and supporting ArcGIS Utility Network solutions, assessing and migrating data, and engaging with clients to enhance operational workflows.
Responsibilities:
- Assess, migrate, and validate electric utility GIS data for ArcGIS Utility Network implementations for distribution and/or transmission systems, ensuring alignment with electric asset behavior and operational requirements
- Lead data mapping and schema review between source electric GIS data and target Utility Network models, addressing distribution and transmission-specific considerations
- Configure and apply data quality and migration tools (ArcGIS Data Reviewer, Safe Software FME / ArcGIS Data Interoperability, Python)
- Lead manual and semi-automated data cleanup efforts, ensuring electric utility data meets quality, connectivity, and operational readiness standards prior to and after migration
- Document and communicate electric Utility Network schema designs, including asset groups/types, connectivity rules, terminals, and subnetworks
- Evaluate, design, and implement geospatial data models and conversion processes that support electric utility workflows such as outage analysis, switching, load analysis, and service design
- Build, configure, and refine ArcGIS Utility Network for electric utilities, including phasing, protective devices, subnetworks, tracing behavior, and validation rules
- Develop or enhance Arcade expressions and rules (attribute rules, calculation rules, validation rules) to support electric network behavior and data integrity
- Test electric UN functionality, including tracing, subnetwork management, and validation, and support iterative refinement of the network model
- Lead and participate in client-facing workshops with engineering, operations, and GIS stakeholders to assess electric utility data, business processes, and operational workflows
- Document implementation approaches, configuration decisions, and operational considerations, and train users on electric ArcGIS Utility Network workflows
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- 3+ years of experience supporting electric utility GIS, including distribution and/or transmission systems
- Experience migrating and validating electric utility data into ArcGIS Utility Network
- Experience implementing ArcGIS Utility Network for electric distribution and/or transmission, including substations, feeders, protective devices, and transmission structures
- Strong understanding of electric utility assets, network behavior, and operational workflows
- Understanding of electric utility operational workflows such as outage response, switching, service design, load analysis, and field data maintenance
- U.S. Citizenship (ability to obtain security clearance)
- Experience with electric transmission modeling in UN
- Familiarity with OMS, ADMS, or EAM integrations
- ArcGIS Utility Network certification with electric implementation experience
- Background in power engineering, utility operations, or field workflows
