Lead the North America indirect tax function, including compliance, reporting, audit management, and planning across multiple jurisdictions
Oversee preparation and filing of North America indirect tax returns (i.e., sales & use, GST/HST/PST, etc.) and ensure timely and accurate submissions
Manage the company’s North America indirect tax monthly close process including reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and controls timely
Manage North America indirect tax audits and inquiries, working closely with external advisors and internal stakeholders
Develop and maintain a sustainable process for obtaining and managing the company’s exemption certificates within Vertex Certificate Manager
Partner with external advisors to manage the company’s real and personal property tax filings and payments
Develop and implement indirect tax strategies to optimize tax positions and ensure compliance including sales tax refund claims and real and personal property tax appeals and appraisals
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Retail, Ecommerce, Finance, Legal, IT, Procurement) to ensure tax implications are considered in business decisions
Partner with the Tax Technology Lead to drive automation and process improvements in North America indirect tax reporting and compliance systems
Research and provide guidance to internal teams on North America indirect tax matters
Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and assess their impact on the business
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting
8+ years of progressive experience in indirect tax, including management roles
Strong accounting and Microsoft Excel skills
Strong knowledge of U.S. sales & use tax and Canadian GST/HST/PST regimes
Strong knowledge of U.S. real and personal property concepts
Experience with indirect tax engines (e.g., Vertex)
Experience with large ERP systems and data reporting and automation tools (e.g., SAP/Oracle and Tableau/Power BI/Alteryx)
Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead cross-functional initiatives
Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
