Integrate the creative vision of Cirque du Soleil into all projects;
Work closely with the Creative Director to identify and select the design team;
Develop and implement the creative proposal (the concept) and communicate it to all designers and artists;
Lead the development, and occasionally the execution, of concepts with the various design teams (scenography, costumes, lighting, projection, choreography, music, sound, human performance, puppetry, props, acting, etc.) in response to the project brief;
Feed into, guide, and provide feedback on each designer’s work within a "Work in Progress" creation process to harmonize all elements of the production;
Participate in developing the performance framework, selecting disciplines, choosing artists, and assigning roles for the show/project;
Approve, together with the Creative Director, plans, models, drafts, sketches, and other proposals from designers;
Create client presentation visuals when necessary, while respecting the required artistic direction;
Lead and facilitate research workshops, guide the work of rehearsal directors, and implement necessary adjustments;
Provide the dramaturgical writing and the metaphorical content of the production;
Direct rehearsals, preparatory workshops, and the various stages of the project's staging;
Modify and refine the staging based on the progress of the production;
Adhere to design parameters and deadlines related to the delivery of the project;
Provide all necessary creative documentation (script, artistic bible, director's notes, etc.).
The Event Designer may also be required to "call" the flow of the evening/show.
Requirements
2 years' experience as a stage director or event designer.
Excellent communication skills; bilingual in French and English, both spoken and written.
Ability to communicate ideas clearly and collaborate with others;
Ability to work on multiple projects and adapt quickly to unexpected changes;
Strong leadership demonstrated through past experience;
Ability to unite and align a multidisciplinary team around an artistic vision;
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, InDesign, and video editing software is an asset;
Ability to travel.
