Health Support Specialist

Role Overview

• Perform a variety of clerical and health support functions in the Special Supplemental Nutrition for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program
• Take weight and height measurements of WIC clients and performing hematological tests
• Accurately enters hematological data into FL-WiSE (WIC database system)
• Maintain documentation of calibration of hematological equipment
• Maintain a log of hematological equipment and testing on WIC participants
• Order supplies on a monthly basis
• Follow Biomedical Waste Operating Plan
• Interview and screen clients for WIC program eligibility
• Communicate administrative and clerical policies and procedures to clients
• Instruct WIC clients interactively in basic nutrition principles
• Assist nutrition staff with nutrition questionnaires
• Organize and maintain WIC records, filing systems and inventories of supplies
• Perform end-of-the-month closeout by calling clients listed on the non-participation report and sending reminder notices

Requirements

• Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency
• Willing to travel to different WIC sites in Lake County
• Work experience performing Nutrition Educator duties in a health care setting (preferred)
• Work experience certifying or recertifying clients in a WIC program (preferred)
• Work experience providing training to staff or co-workers (preferred)
• Experience speaking, writing and reading the Spanish language (preferred)
