Financial reporting: Leading the production of accurate, timely, and compliant monthly consolidated financial statements and regulatory returns, ensuring audit scrutiny
Technical lead: Researching and documenting complex accounting positions under IFRS (including IFRS 9 and new product launches), ensuring we have a defensible and documented approach for every major decision.
People management: Managing a team of Senior Accountants responsible for month end close, deep technical work and operational accounting (including accounts payable, vendor payments, invoicing).
Internal controls and compliance: Partnering with the Director to build and test a robust internal controls framework, moving us to a mature and controlled environment. Responsible for tax compliance.
AI and automation: Actively exploring and implementing AI tools to automate routine reporting and research tasks, driving a culture of continuous technological improvement within the team.
Bank transition work: Assisting with the overall transition to a schedule 1 Bank, by delivering on financial reporting requirements, designing and implementing robust internal controls and establishing regulatory reporting processes for a regulated financial institution.
Requirements
Designated & Experienced: You hold a CPA designation with 5-7+ years of progressive experience, ideally with a mix of Big 4 audit and industry reporting (fintech or banking experience is a major asset).
Technical Heavyweight: You have deep, hands-on expertise with IFRS (especially financial instruments) and are comfortable writing technical memos that can stand up to external audit partner review.
Tax Savvy: You have functional experience with Canadian corporate and indirect tax compliance, confident in reviewing tax provisions and coordinating with external tax specialists.
AI Curious & Capable: You have some hands-on experience with AI tools (LLMs, automation) to streamline workflows, but more importantly, you possess a strong interest in leveraging AI to modernize the finance function.
People Leader: You have proven experience managing or supervising accountants, with a passion for reviewing work, providing feedback, and elevating the technical skills of your direct reports.
Process Architect: You don't just follow a checklist; you look for ways to optimize the month-end close, improve data quality from source systems, and implement controls that make the audit smoother every year.
