The Package Engineer will Compete, Innovate and Deliver to lead packaging projects for medical device products in New Product Development through commercialization.
The engineer will manage and/or execute all packaging activities for materials, process, design/re-design, equipment and/or validation while exploring cost savings, standardization and efficiency opportunities.
Lead new packaging development projects in New Product Development (NPD) teams.
Collaborate with Product Development, Industrial Design, Marketing, Operations, Sourcing and other internal organizations to develop new packaging to meet consumer and retailer needs.
Work with internal process and operations and external OEMs to launch with scale up planned for consumer preferred packaging system.
Translate consumer use requirements into packaging concepts with rapid prototype generations for iterative qualitative testing.
Actively participates with project teams to drive prototype concepts for qualitative and quantitative research.
Collaborate with outside suppliers to develop and qualify new packaging components from concept through project stage gate up to launch.
Develop and own COGS for packaging system components.
Create and maintain technical documentation such as packaging specifications and test reports.
Analyzes concepts to ensure that the specifications (Package Performance Specifications) meet the consumer, Marketing, and/or Regulatory requirements.
Develop custom test methods as needed.
Stay informed about industry trends, sustainability, innovation developments, etc.
Travel to suppliers and manufacturing sites for design trials as needed.
Write testing protocols.
Lead appropriate documentation of activities in accordance with existing policies and procedures (Divisions, Corporate, and Regulatory compliance)
Requirements
BS in Packaging Engineering or related technical field of study required
Minimum 3-5 years of experience or based upon experience
Consumer Packaged Goods and/or Medical Device experience required
Experience and passion with med device and/or consumer facing packaging lead concept ideas through NPD to the market
Drawing experience and proficiency preferred (TOPS, Artios/Auto CAD, Solidworks, etc.)
Project management preferred
Manufacturing site exposure a plus
Experience Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)/Design for Manufacturing (DFM) a plus
Prototype generation experience a plus
People management experience a plus
Proven ability to design and lead innovative packaging systems mechanisms.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, Microsoft Project
