Operating Theatre Assistant (OTA)

Role Overview

• Provide professional care to patients before, during and after surgery, taking their overall wellbeing into account
• Organize, coordinate and independently carry out work processes
• Prepare the operating theatre before and after surgical procedures
• Prepare operations, including surgical instruments
• Perform circulating/runner duties before, during and after surgery
• Assist with surgical instrumentation across various specialties
• Competently operate and be familiar with medical devices and materials
• Responsible for hygiene measures and aseptic technique
• Perform administrative tasks

Requirements

• Secondary school leaving certificate (e.g., Realschulabschluss) or completion of another ten-year school education, or lower secondary school certificate (Hauptschulabschluss) with a completed vocational training (minimum two years)
• Qualification as a nursing assistant or geriatric nursing assistant with at least one year of training
• Medical fitness/health suitability
• At least 16 years old at the start of training
