The VP – Mortgage Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day accounting operations for the bank’s mortgage activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with GAAP and applicable mortgage regulations.
Manage accounting staff, support month‑end and year‑end close processes, and partner closely with finance, funding, servicing, and secondary market teams.
Review and approve journal entries and purchase invoices.
Ensure accurate accounting for loan originations, sales, servicing, warehouse lines, escrow, and related fees.
Partner with funding, secondary, and servicing teams to resolve loan accounting discrepancies.
Support interim servicing and sub‑servicer accounting and reporting.
Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting.
Support internal and external audits, regulatory exams, and due diligence requests.
Assist in developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.
Supervise, coach, and develop accounting staff. Review work product to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency. Participate in system implementations, upgrades, and automation initiatives.
Support special projects, ad‑hoc reporting, and management initiatives as needed.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in mortgage lending
2+ years of people management or team‑lead experience preferred
Experience with mortgage loan accounting, warehouse lines, or financial services is strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
Experience supporting audits and regulatory examinations
High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
Strong communication skills and ability to partner cross‑functionally
Proficiency with accounting systems and Excel; mortgage systems experience a plus
Familiarity with mortgage and banking activities.
