Act as a trusted legal partner for RWE’s activities in Japan and across global markets.
Support the full project lifecycle—from development to construction and operations—across regulatory, corporate, joint venture, finance, procurement, and commercial matters.
Advise, draft, and independently negotiate high-impact strategic agreements, including: Joint venture arrangements (bidding agreements, shareholder agreements, service agreements), Project financing transactions, Procurement and construction agreements (e.g., turbine supply, EPC(I), maritime logistics/BIMCO, port usage etc.).
Coordinate and integrate input from both internal and external experts to deliver clear, pragmatic, and cost-effective solutions.
Proactively advise senior stakeholders on risks, claims, and disputes within your remit.
Champion process improvements and help enhance team-wide collaboration, efficiency, and consistency.
Contribute creative, well-balanced solutions to complex legal challenges.
Build strong, cross-cultural relationships—working with colleagues across departments, regions, and the wider RWE Group.
Requirements
Fully qualified lawyer in Japan with strong legal skills and experience across civil and common law jurisdictions, ideally including construction, corporate, commercial transactions, regulatory & public policy and/or project finance.
At least 5-8 years of post-qualification experience in a leading law firm or industry-leading in-house role.
A team-oriented mindset and enthusiasm for contributing to international projects with cross-functional teams.
Ability to balance priorities, navigate change, and approach challenges with confidence, composure, and a practical, solution-oriented outlook.
Strong commercial and technical acumen combined with strategic thinking.
Excellent communication skills, emotional intelligence, and a positive, collaborative approach.
Comfortable working independently while thriving in diverse, global teams
building trust across cultures and time zones.
Ability to balance Japanese law and practices with international standards (FIDIC style contracts).
Fluency in Japanese and English; additional languages welcome.
Openness to international travel as needed.
