Manage litigation on behalf of the company, oversee outside counsel and drive strategy.
Provide legal advice and counsel to internal stakeholders and senior management within respective lines of business.
Research legal principles and precedents within area of specialization or expertise.
Proactively identifies and communicates risk to internal and/or external customers and provides recommendations on how to mitigate that risk.
Draft, negotiate and execute legal documents.
Maintain awareness of external judicial climate and legal developments.
Build and maintain strong internal and external client relationships.
Act as a mentor and coach to less senior attorneys and/or paralegal/staff.
May prepare or review annual legal fees budget for assigned matters.
Review invoices from outside counsel and recommend adjustments.
Within authority level, approve invoices.
Make effective use of technology and automation to gain efficiencies in the practice of law.
Work collaboratively and build and maintain strong relationships with internal clients and other lawyers and staff across the Legal Services.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Ten years of prior legal experience as a practicing attorney.
Experience in insurance coverage litigation. Commercial Litigation and account resolution including bankruptcy experience is preferred.
Demonstrated experience with litigation management.
Strong analytical abilities and oral communication skills.
Understanding of claim and underwriting principles and the ability to adapt those to litigation.
Demonstrated knowledge of insurance policies and coverages.
Juris Doctorate or equivalent International legal degree; graduate of an accredited law school.
7 years of prior legal experience as a practicing attorney.
Active license in good standing to practice law in the state(s) in which representation is required.
