Role Overview
- Reviews Pathology reports in Epic Beaker for charges received via various interfaces
- Identifies pertinent facts to assign the most comprehensive diagnosis and procedure codes
- Assigns CPT and ICD-10 codes
- Communicates with physicians to assure documentation supports services performed
- Assists other coders and IBC staff with medical terminology and policy interpretation
- Codes reports for IBC staff to be sent to various payers for reimbursement
- Assists with efforts to increase physician awareness of documentation requirements
Requirements
- Must have one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCA, CCS, or CCS-P); AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, or one of the AAPC specialty-specific coding credentials)
- Preferred: Previous coding experience or experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in related field
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
- Communication, Computer Systems, ICD-10 Procedure Coding System, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Terminology
