About this role
Role Overview
Own the legal spend analytics function, producing regular matter-level and practice group spend reports, trend analyses, budget vs. actual tracking, and savings initiative reporting.
Own the Outside Counsel Management Center of Excellence by managing all external counsel engagements across the company, including in the Claims org.
Develop and maintain a legal spend benchmarking program, leveraging industry data to evaluate the competitiveness of our rate structures and overall cost profile relative to financial services peers.
Build, own, and continuously improve the legal department's KPI framework — defining the metrics that matter most across outside counsel performance, matter management, resource utilization, and operational efficiency.
Lead and develop the legal data team who serve as a shared analytics resource for the entire Legal, Policy, & Compliance organization.
Establish and manage a clear prioritization and intake process for analytics requests across all legal operations domains, ensuring equitable and transparent access to analytical support across all peer functions.
Oversee the design and maintenance of legal department dashboards and data visualizations that translate complex data into clear, compelling narratives for executive leadership.
Serve as the business owner of the matter management and CLM platforms, defining data standards, workflow requirements, and reporting outputs in partnership with Legal Tech.
Negotiate vendor or law firm pricing.
Knowledge of the latest industry trends and evolving market forces governing legal and expert firm rates and billing trends.
Requirements
B.A./B.S. in business or other relevant subject
At least 10 years of relevant experience in a corporate legal department, claims organization, or law firm.
Experience managing or mentoring legal operations or data analytics professionals
JD, MBA, or advanced degree a plus but not required.
