Role Overview
Partner with advancement, program, and finance teams to develop complex restricted product offerings and secure organizational approval for external use.
Ensure complex restricted product offerings match programmatic priorities and align with funding needs.
Partner with advancement teams to identify philanthropic themes, such as women’s empowerment and climate change, and partner with program teams to identify nexus with IJM’s work to develop specialized complex restricted gift opportunities.
Serve as a consulting partner with advancement teams to vet funding opportunities and to assess if there is a pre-approved product offering that might be a good fit or if a custom offering is needed.
Partner with the Product Specialist roles and the global marketing team to package the complex restricted offerings.
Ensure that all parties—advancement, programs, and finance—are aligned on the general direction of complex restricted products and each specific offering.
Develop system for advancement teams to leverage complex restricted product offerings while not pitching the same opportunity to multiple prospective investors.
Manage a portfolio of complex restricted gifts.
Interpret donor agreements and restrictions to ensure proper implementation, tracking, and fund usage.
In collaboration with Global Finance and regional teams, monitor expenditures and balances to confirm alignment with donor intent, institutional policy and regulatory standards.
In collaboration with Global Finance and regional teams, identify, research and resolve compliance issues related to restricted funds, including under
or over-spending, lapsed restrictions, or ambiguous donor terms.
Facilitate detailed financial and impact reports for donors, leadership and internal stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and clarity, in partnership with Product Development Specialists.
Support donor stewardship efforts by translating financial activity into donor-ready narratives and summaries.
Respond to donor inquiries regarding fund performance, balances, and the use of restricted contributions.
Support Relationship Owners in early identification, screening and verification when donor opportunities present possible complex restrictions.
Serve as a liaison between Relationship Owners and key regional, Global Finance and program staff in confirming alignment with program plans and budgets and in completing timely documentation of key information needed for the go/no go decision-making process.
Partner closely with Fundraising, Finance, Legal, Grants, Resources and Program teams to ensure consistent interpretation and execution of gift restrictions.
Provide subject-matter expertise on restricted gift administration during gift acceptance, agreement drafting, and post-award implementation.
Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to audit inquiries related to restricted contributions.
Maintain accurate records of restricted gifts within financial, donor and grant management systems.
Develop and refine internal controls, procedures and best practices related to restricted gift management.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reporting and compliance through process enhancements or system improvements.
Serve as a resource to internal teams on restricted gift policy, compliance requirements and best practices.
Assist in developing training materials or guidance related to restricted gift administration and donor compliance.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field;
5-7 + years of experience in fundraising, grant management, restricted fund accounting, gift administration, or a related role;
Strong understanding of fundraising and donor cultivation;
Experience in higher education, healthcare, or nonprofit organizations with complex gift portfolios;
Strong understanding of donor restrictions, fund accounting, and financial reporting principles;
Demonstrated ability to interpret complex legal or donor agreements and translate them into operational requirements;
High level of attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial audiences;
Experience within international development sector preferred;
