A Patient Financial Advocate is responsible for providing financial counseling to uninsured/ underinsured patients.
Determine medical assistance eligibility for patients in various settings.
Assist patients with submitting and/or processing documentation for medical assistance programs.
Provide general insurance education and quotes to patients.
Assist with payments and arrangements.
Identify financial assistance programs for eligible patients.
Complete and submit applications to relevant departments.
Follow-up through determination and resolve billing issues.
Educate patients on financial obligations and rights.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience in healthcare revenue cycle, patient access or other customer service role.
Demonstrates knowledge of the Affordable Care Act, Insurance billing, medical terminology, and reimbursement practices.
Demonstrated proficiency in interpreting insurance Explanation of Benefits.
Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office applications, electronic health record systems, internet and email.
Demonstrates excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience in financial counseling, insurance verification, or collections preferred.
Experience with Epic preferred.
Spanish speaking preferred.
