Reporting to the Global IT Project Manager, the BI Data Analyst is responsible for designing, delivering, and supporting enterprise-grade business intelligence and analytics solutions using Microsoft Power BI and the Power Platform, with a strong focus on supporting commodity trading (e.g. oil, metal, gas, power, LNG, derivatives), shipping and trade lifecycle activities (e.g. operation, risk management, contract, settlement, letter of credit, etc.) .
The role is critical for translating trading-specific data insights into actionable business decisions.
The role acts as a subject-matter expert (SME) for Power BI while also possessing strong business analysis capabilities, enabling data-driven decision-making through high-quality dashboards, governed datasets, automation, and strong stakeholder engagement.
Partner with business users, senior management, and IT stakeholders to understand analytical needs and translate them into actionable BI solutions.
Gather, document, and validate business requirements; recommend analytical approaches aligned with business objectives.
Proactively engage with senior business stakeholders to identify areas of improvement in trading and shipping operations and support business development through data-driven insights.
Design, develop, and maintain Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards to meet evolving business requirements.
Build and deliver end-to-end analytical and automation solutions using Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, and AI Builder tailored to the commodity trading and shipping business.
Act as the go-to expert for Power BI and data analytics–related user queries within the commodity trading and shipping domain.
Conduct Power BI end-user training sessions and provide ongoing guidance and best-practice support.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, or a related field.
Microsoft certifications in Power BI / Power Platform / Fabric are highly preferred.
Strong understanding of commodity trading environments is required (oil, metal, gas, power, LNG, derivatives).
In-depth knowledge of the trading lifecycle, including market trends, operation, PnL, positions, settlements and risk management, is essential.
Experience working with trading data (e.g., PnL, risk, positions, settlements) and ETRM systems is highly preferred.
Strong expertise in Microsoft Power Platform, with Power BI as a core specialization (SME level).
Excellent SQL skills and solid understanding of data modelling concepts.
Strong business analysis skills, capable of interpreting trading requirements and translating them into technical deliverables.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Strong stakeholder management skills, capable of exceeding stakeholder expectations, particularly in the context of trading and business analysis.
