Reviews patient records and clinical data to develop and update individualized respiratory care plans; advises providers on appropriate respiratory interventions.
Administers and documents a wide range of respiratory therapies including medication delivery, airway management, oxygen therapy, ventilator support, and diagnostic testing.
Prepares, checks, and maintains respiratory equipment; monitors clinical parameters and adjusts treatment based on patient response.
Works closely with the healthcare team to coordinate care, communicates patient status, and provides education to patients and families.
Senior therapists lead shifts, mentor new staff, participate in education and quality initiatives, and support operations in inpatient or outpatient settings.
Requirements
Associate’s degree in Respiratory Care or equivalent certificate
2 years previous full time critical care experience in respiratory care is required; part time and per diem experience will be pro-rated to determine eligibility.
New York State Respiratory Therapist license with current registration
Current NBRC RRT credential is required for all Respiratory Therapist entering the field after 9/1993
ACLS certification (current) required within one year of hire
Respiratory therapists employed in non-acute (pulmonary or Long Term Care) areas are excluded from the ACLS requirement
