Directs the day-to-day operations of the Underwriting Department in Texas and New Mexico
Develops and implements policies and procedures for the department
Working with Senior Management, develops underwriting strategies
Assesses and develops underwriting operational plans
Develop and implement goals, objectives, and work standards for the Underwriting Department
Develops and applies policies and procedures which comply with regulatory guidelines, rules, and standards
Partners with other departments to align underwriting tactics with industry standards
Create and refine underwriting guidelines to support company requirements
Confers with Senior and Executive Management regarding departmental requirements and solutions
Has full supervisory responsibility for a staff
Responsible for salary administration
Coaches and mentors staff; provides development opportunities

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Advanced degree preferred
8+ years progressive management experience
8-10 years of directly related experience
Demonstrated competency in executing strategic plans
Knowledge and understanding of state laws and regulations affecting insurance practices
Knowledge of finance, accounting and actuarial concepts and practices as applied to the insurance industry
Experience in risk management
Ability to learn needs of a wide range of employees while driving team performance
