The Managing Director, Research and Policy leads the development, execution, and communication of EEIs policy analysis and research agenda.
Identify emerging regulatory, legislative, market, and news-driven developments affecting the energy sector, and produce high-quality written work products that inform EEIs advocacy, member engagement, and external positioning.
Lead a team of professionals including policy analysts and economists, and serve as a key internal thought partner and external subject-matter expert on complex energy policy issues.
Develop and maintain a forward-looking policy research agenda for EEI that is aligned with organizational priorities and member needs.
Advise senior leadership on emerging risks, opportunities, and strategic positioning.
Lead the production of rigorous, defensible policy analyses, white papers, issue briefs, reports and memos.
Oversee or conduct quantitative and qualitative research, including economic analysis, benchmarking, and policy comparisons.
Oversee the production of EEIs periodic data-driven reporting and other work products, presentations, and advocacy and educational materials.
Requirements
Bachelors degree is required; advanced degree in law, public policy, economics, energy systems, or a related field is strongly preferred.
15+ years of relevant experience in energy policy, regulatory analysis, government, industry, or a related field.
Deep familiarity with energy markets, utility regulation, and key federal and state policy frameworks.
Exceptional analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.
Superior writing and editing skills, with demonstrated experience producing high-impact policy documents under tight timelines.
Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes (e.g., FERC, DOE, EPA, state commissions).
Ability to operate strategically while managing detailed, deadline-driven workstreams, including rapid-response deliverables.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage credibly with senior stakeholders.
