Under broad oversight, the VP, Corporate Tax is responsible for leading, adapting, and executing highly complex and strategic state and local tax functions for insurance companies.
This includes oversight of insurance premium taxes, licenses, and regulatory fees, while ensuring compliance with evolving state and local tax requirements.
Assist in organization-wide corporate state and local tax planning and preparation activities, including negotiation and litigation activities.
Direct subordinates in a manner that minimizes the state and local tax liability and the impact of taxes on the financial statements while complying with tax law and financial accounting standards.
Identifies changes in state and local tax law and tax accounting rules to determine impact on the company.
Oversee the preparation, research, and review of state and local tax returns consistent with management philosophy and tax law requirements.
Review models and provide guidance and support to identify, analyze and assess tax risks and opportunities.
Identify state and local tax effects of prior and proposed business transactions for the purpose of developing the most favorable tax position.
Consultation with auditors, lawyers, and regulatory agencies on tax matters.
Aligns and leverages enterprise resources to accomplish key objectives; assigns clear accountability for important objectives.
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
Experience with relevant tax software.
Knowledge of state and local taxation of insurance companies.
Eleven years of relevant corporate tax experience or public accounting tax experience.
6 years of management experience.
Advanced knowledge of tax concepts, research and compliance.
Intermediate knowledge of computer application software, particularly spreadsheets.
Ability to clearly articulate complex tax issues orally and in writing to various levels of management, as well as outside parties such as government tax auditors and various state officials.
Advanced project management skills.
Demonstrated advanced communication and presentation skills.
Ability to interact effectively with others across functions and levels across enterprise.
