Role Overview
Investigating Open Meeting Law complaints alleging violations of the Open Meeting Law.
Drafting formal and informal determination letters resolving those matters.
Conducting online and in-person Open Meeting Law trainings.
Responding to telephone and email requests for guidance on the Open Meeting Law’s requirements.
Ensuring compliance with the Public Records Law following referrals from the Supervisor of Public Records.
Defending lawsuits challenging the Division’s interpretations of the Open Meeting Law and bringing affirmative litigation to compel compliance with the Public Records Law.
Requirements
Must be a member of the Massachusetts Bar.
A minimum of three (3) years of legal experience.
Knowledge of and familiarity with the Open Meeting Law and Public Records Law as well as the administrative law process generally is desirable.
Experience engaging with members of the public to investigate and resolve complaints, and provide information to constituents, is preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to serving the public interest.
Ability to independently manage a high-volume caseload.
Litigation experience is preferred but not required.
Applicants must be active members in good standing of the Massachusetts Bar at the time of application.
