Electric Power Engineers (EPE) is seeking a Principal Engineer or Engineering Manager to join their Energy Resources team, focusing on power system studies and EMT modeling. The role involves providing subject matter expertise, mentoring junior engineers, and supporting project completion while ensuring quality and budget objectives.
Responsibilities:
- EMT Studies: Perform power system studies such as temporary overvoltage, switching overvoltage, insulation coordination, harmonic, flicker, transient recovery volage, energization, lightning overvoltage etc
- Model Development: Develop dynamic generator/load models, perform disturbance ride through model tuning and perform PSCAD/PSSE model benchmarking
- Steady State Studies : Perform steady state studies such as load flow, short circuit and power quality
- Specialization : knowledge of datacenter equipment dynamic and conventional generation equipment dynamic is an asset
- Technology: Proficiency in power system modelling software such as PSCAD, PSSE, ETAP or equivalents. Familiarity with other specialized software such CDEGS, COMSOL, CYMCAP, EMTP, PowerFactory WinIGS etc is an asset
- Compliance: Strong understanding of relevant industry standards such as IEEE/IEC/CIGRE
- Client Management : Provide advisory support to generation, large load and merchant transmission developers. Take responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality and budget objectives
- Technical Leadership: Lead, teach and mentor junior level Power Systems Engineers
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in power system modelling and power system studies
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering with power system emphasis
- Proficiency in power system modelling software such as PSCAD, PSSE, ETAP or equivalents
- Strong understanding of relevant industry standards such as IEEE/IEC/CIGRE
- Experience with Data Center equipment dynamics is an asset
- Experience with conventional generation machine dynamics is an asset
- Experience with control system tuning is an asset
- Knowledge of datacenter equipment dynamic and conventional generation equipment dynamic is an asset
- Familiarity with other specialized software such CDEGS, COMSOL, CYMCAP, EMTP, PowerFactory WinIGS etc is an asset
