Electric Power Engineers is focused on designing the grid of the future and is seeking a Power Systems Engineer II to contribute to this mission. The role involves conducting computer modeling and analysis for transmission planning studies, ensuring compliance with NERC standards, and preparing technical study reports.
Responsibilities:
- Perform power system impact studies: Steady State, Short Circuit, and Dynamic Stability
- Perform NERC-compliance-related technical analyses such as TPL Annual Planning Assessments
- Perform full generator interconnection studies which may also include Sub-Synchronous Resonance (SSR) studies
- Ensure that renewable and/or storage resource projects interconnecting to the transmission system meet Voltage Ride-Through (VRT) requirements
- Prepare technical study reports for all studies performed. Process, generate, and maintain data as required for all studies
- Take responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality and budget objectives
- Identify training needs and present to the Engineering Manager as needed
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, emphasis in Power Systems preferred
- 2+ years of experience as a power systems engineer
- Experience performing power system impact studies such as Dynamic Stability, Steady State, and Short Circuit
- Experience with power systems software such as PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, Aspen, and TARA
- Ability to provide on the job training or help oversee the work of other Power Systems Engineers and Interns
- Proven team player with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters
- Capable of managing multiple tasks
- Flexible with the ability to manage change
- Have high standards in producing quality reports and products that he/she shall own with pride
- Strong technical report writing skills
- Experience automating/programming in Python preferred
