Electric Power Engineers is looking for an Engineering Manager with expertise in Generation and Load Interconnection and Transmission Planning. The role involves supporting interconnection processes, advising stakeholders, and driving growth while leading a team and fostering relationships with clients and regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities:
- Support generation, large load and merchant transmission developers navigate interconnection processes across the Western Interconnection System (WECC)
- Advise internal/external stakeholders on complex interconnection related matters by leveraging your critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
- Review ISO and/or Utility interconnection study results and work with your team to replicate findings and identify errors or alternative mitigations that could impact assigned network upgrades and project success
- Work with senior leadership to develop new tools and services
- Drive expansion and growth into new regions
- Stay up to date with industry trends, regulatory changes and emerging technologies
- Passionate about leading people and creating a supporting culture, solving difficult problems, providing innovative solutions and taking ownership of the solutions provided
- Develop net new and enhance existing relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, industry organizations, and regulatory agencies
- Support responses to RFPs, DOE grants and development of Scopes of Work
- Participate and coordinate industry involvement through conferences, speaking opportunities, technical paper submissions, etc
Requirements:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in the electric energy industry
- Experience in IBR modelling, transmission planning and/or interconnection studies and processes
- Active participation and leadership in industry taskforces and/or working groups
- Strong understanding of FERC, NERC and ISO interconnection requirements and standards
- In-depth knowledge of at least one but preferably several of the following software packages: PSLF, PowerWorld, PSSE, PSCAD, TARA and ASPEN
- Strong written and verbal communication and ability to work collaboratively and effectively with cross-functional teams
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience in mentoring diverse teams
- Direct experience working at an ISO/Utility or on behalf of these entities as a consultant
- Direct experience with Utilities, TSPs, and Regulators in WECC would be considered a plus
- Experience with large load interconnection studies and processes
- Automation experience (Python, C#, SQL)
