Mapbox is the leading real-time location platform for a new generation of location-aware businesses. As the Senior Engineering Manager for Maps, you will lead the backend services within the Maps division, overseeing product development and driving profitability while fostering innovation and collaboration among engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction, vision, and roadmap for the Maps engineering teams, aligning it with the company's overall goals and objectives
- Lead an organization of engineers, fostering innovation, collaboration, and excellence in engineering practices
- Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of Maps APIs, ensuring they meet customer requirements, industry standards, and leveraging user feedback and market insights for refinement
- Collaborate with external engineering leaders to drive technical excellence and cultivate strategic partnerships to expand Mapbox's presence, enabling seamless integration of mapping solutions and identifying new business opportunities for strategic growth
- Partner with Product and Sales team across the company to align roadmap, product launches, and customer deliverables
Requirements:
- 10+ years of software development leadership experience
- Conceptualized and delivered B2B2C or consumer-facing products
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to establish a realistic yet ambitious product roadmap and effectively communicate it to the market and across the organization
- Experience in a high-accountability environment, with the ability to build, operationalize, and scale technically distributed organizations (engineering, product, data scientists, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to drive go-to-market strategies that have resulted in successful product adoption and revenue generation
- Ability to think strategically to grow the Maps business
- Architect and deliver scalable, reliable solutions on AWS, applying deep knowledge of cloud-native services to balance performance, resilience, and operational simplicity
- Drive infrastructure cost efficiency as a first-class engineering concern, proactively optimizing cloud spend through thoughtful architecture, right-sizing, automation, and disciplined trade-off decisions
