Senior Manager, Marketplace Strategy

Airbnb is a global hospitality platform that connects travelers with unique accommodations and experiences around the world. The Senior Manager, Marketplace Strategy will drive data-driven decision-making to enhance guest and host experiences and represent the customer voice, while shaping the analytical framework for investment strategy to achieve revenue growth and customer retention.

Responsibilities:

• Synthesizes complex data and strategic insights into compelling narratives that inspire action, leveraging strong storytelling skills to translate analytical findings into clear, persuasive recommendations for senior leadership and cross-functional teams
• Empowers direct reports to adopt a narrative-driven approach, ensuring insights are not just understood, but drive meaningful business decisions
• Translate the Community Blueprint's strategic impact into concrete business metrics like revenue generation, customer retention, and brand strength, providing leadership with a clear, defensible view of the program's ROI
• Shape the Community Blueprint portfolio like a product portfolio—balancing risk, market reach, and expected return
• Drive prioritization exercises, clearly articulating where the team should invest resources, what programs should be stopped or scaled back, and how to accurately size the potential business upside of key initiatives
• Serve as the guardian of customer reality within the team, keeping stakeholders honest about "for whom" we are building and "at what moment," ensuring programs genuinely match customer reality instead of internal assumptions
• Serve as a strategic thought partner to senior leadership, leveraging exceptional executive communication skills and presence to distill complex concepts into compelling narratives that influence decision-making, align stakeholders, and drive organizational vision forward
• Operate as a strong, independent, and proactive leader who can manage complex projects and influence cross-functional partners without direct authority
• Leverage technical skills for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis, including SQL, Python, and advanced data visualization tools
• Experience utilizing LLM tools for research and insight generation is a significant advantage
• Maintain a strong growth learning mindset, demonstrating resilience, adaptability, and an eagerness to take on any analytical or strategic challenge

Requirements:

• 13+ years of industry experience in a consulting, investment banking, strategy or business analytics manager, marketplace dynamics, customer insights or related commercial role
• 7+ years people management experience - experience leading, mentoring, and developing a high-performing team, fostering a culture of growth, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Demonstrated experience leading end-to-end business case development, including comprehensive data gathering, building and presenting compelling recommendations, and securing stakeholder alignment and next steps
• Demonstrated commercial-mindedness and strong business acumen, with the ability to connect analytical findings directly to financial and operational outcomes
• Understands how to analyze the complexities of marketplace dynamics
• Proven expertise in analyzing end-to-end customer or user journeys
• Expert-level proficiency in SQL for data extraction and manipulation
• Advanced skills in data visualization tools (e.g., Superset, Tableau) and data analysis using Python/R
• Familiarity with leveraging large language model (LLM) tools for research, pattern identification, or synthesis
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, specifically in articulating complex strategic trade-offs to executive audiences
• A deeply customer-oriented philosophy, coupled with the ability to thrive at the intersection of community dynamics and the underlying business model
• An agile, growth-minded approach, demonstrated through a history of driving projects from ideation to impact
• Experience working in a two-sided marketplace, platform, or community-driven business model
• Experience shaping a portfolio of programs or products, demonstrating competence in risk assessment and sizing return on investment (ROI)
• Experience utilizing LLM tools for research and insight generation is a significant advantage
• An undergraduate degree with a strong preference for candidates holding an MBA or equivalent advanced degree
