AI Engineering Leader

Abacus Insights is transforming how data works for health plans. As a mission-driven AI Engineering leader, you’ll guide a global team of AI engineers to deliver solutions that matter, ensuring projects run smoothly and innovation thrives.

Responsibilities:

• Define and deliver AI strategy – Drive the development and deployment of advanced AI models and systems that power Abacus products (e.g., Abacus Agents, MCP, SQL and RAG tools)
• Lead cross-functional collaboration – Work closely with AI engineers, data engineers, and product teams to create solutions that boost user productivity and satisfaction
• Manage and mentor teams – Oversee software development teams (30+ engineers) across multiple product lines, guiding architecture decisions, coding standards, and organizational best practices
• Drive innovation and execution – Lead critical projects in AI and data engineering, ensure roadmap delivery, and maintain high quality standards
• Influence architecture and operations – Participate in architectural discussions, improve processes for Agile/Scrum teams, and balance roadmap commitments with operational priorities
• Scale for growth – Coach and develop talent, evolve team structure toward 50+ engineers, and foster a culture of excellence

Requirements:

• 8+ years of experience in engineering roles, including 3–5 years leading and managing technical teams
• Demonstrated engineering leadership experience, including people management, performance management, mentoring, coaching, and team development
• Proven ability to build, scale, and lead global engineering teams in high‑growth environments
• Strong experience leading ML/AI engineering efforts from concept through production in fast‑moving organizations
• Exposure to Databricks, Mosaic AI Gateway, and related Data + AI technologies
• Working knowledge of RAG architectures, SQL Agents, and MCP
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to translate complex problems into clear execution plans
