Amentum is involved in groundbreaking missions to the Moon and Mars, seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their team at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The role involves engineering tasks related to Flight Auxiliary Power Unit and Hydraulic systems, supporting the Artemis program, and requires collaboration on assembly, servicing, and testing of the Space Launch System.
Responsibilities:
- Perform engineering tasks in support of the Flight Auxiliary Power Unit / Hydraulic systems engineering group
- Candidate will perform engineering work on a team to accomplish assembly, servicing, test and launch of NASA's Space Launch System in support of the Artemis program
- Assignments will range from installation, maintenance & operation of ground systems supporting SLS launch to development of ground application software and procedures used during ground processing and vehicle launch of NASAs SLS
- Candidates will be required to apply knowledge of technical principles, vehicle processing operations concepts, ground to vehicle interfaces, and vehicle/ground system design and operation
- Additional responsibilities including system training, vehicle processing, and launch certification will follow
- Candidate will be expected to accomplish testing & operations independently, and act as Task Team Leader for assignments involving APU/Hydraulics engineering related teams
- Candidate will contribute to team effort by accomplishing other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Candidates will possess a BS degree in Engineering or technical equivalent
- Additional relevant education may be substituted for a portion of the experience
- Hydraulic system and/or turbine system operation and maintenance experience a plus
- Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for troubleshooting
- Climbing ladders and platforms will be necessary
- Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment
- Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing
- Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures
- Must be able to work in tight confined space areas
- All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards
- Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex
- Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site
- Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility
- Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance
- Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week
- Must be dependable and punctual
- Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule
- If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required
- Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills
- Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives
- Government security clearance may be required in the future
- Must be able to travel to support position requirements
- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others
- Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management
- Must possess and maintain a valid CDL with endorsements Florida driver's license
- Must pass a federal background investigation
- Must comply with all 'drug free workplace' requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions
- Aircraft / Spacecraft / Launch Vehicle processing background a plus
