Kintec Search, Inc. is seeking a Substation Engineer to perform protection and control engineering design for utility substation and transmission projects. The role involves developing engineering deliverables, preparing specifications, and coordinating designs with various teams to ensure compliance and high-quality results.
Responsibilities:
- Perform protection and control (P&C) engineering design for utility substation and transmission projects, typically ranging from 69kV through 500kV
- Develop detailed engineering deliverables including single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection and control panel layouts
- Prepare equipment specifications, relay logic diagrams, cable schedules, conduit layouts, and bills of material for substation projects
- Support relay protection schemes including line protection, transformer protection, bus protection, and breaker failure applications
- Coordinate protection and control designs with physical substation design teams, transmission engineering groups, and project management staff
- Review and interpret client standards, project specifications, and applicable industry codes to ensure compliance throughout the design process
- Participate in project planning, engineering execution, and technical reviews to ensure high-quality deliverables are completed on schedule
- Provide technical input during project meetings, design reviews, and client discussions
- Support site walkdowns, constructability reviews, and field engineering activities as required during project development or construction
- Assist with quality control reviews of engineering drawings and documentation to maintain high engineering standards
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- 4+ years of experience in protection and control engineering for electric utility substations or transmission systems
- Experience preparing protection and control design drawings including schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and relay logic diagrams
- Strong understanding of substation protection schemes, relay applications, and control system design
- Familiarity with industry standards including NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and NEC
- Proficiency with engineering design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design platforms
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain licensure is strongly preferred
