Tactacam is a leading innovator in outdoor and action camera technology, dedicated to providing high-quality products that enhance the outdoor experience. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the mechanical development of next-generation connected products, acting as a technical bridge between Tactacam and external partners while optimizing mechanical performance and delivering innovative solutions.
Responsibilities:
- ODM Design Review & Facilitation: Review mechanical designs of complex components and systems across multiple camera platforms provided by ODMs, ensuring they meet Tactacam's standards for innovation, performance, and scalability. This may include but not limited to the following:
- Assist in definition of Mechanical Architecture (Space Layout, Interfaces definition, attachments, structural performance...)
- Assist in definition of Mechanical Features (Latches, Hinges, Seals, Optical Lens...)
- Assist in definition of Manufacturing Processes (DFM) (Injection molding, Ultra sonic welding, Two-shot molding...)
- Author Requirements & Specifications (Research, Benchmarking, Testing...)
- Complex Problem Solving: Actively facilitate the development of ODM designs by troubleshooting and proposing robust engineering solutions to complex ODM mechanical and manufacturing obstacles
- Advanced Design Evaluation: Utilize cutting-edge CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and simulation tools to evaluate and validate robust, high-precision ODM designs from concept through production
- Prototyping & Validation Oversight: Review ODM rapid prototyping efforts and oversee detailed testing protocols to validate design intent, ensure mechanical integrity, and meet environmental and regulatory standards
- Materials & DFM Collaboration: Partner with ODM engineers to validate high-performance materials and ensure DFM and DFA principles are integrated early in the design phase to streamline manufacturing, reduce cost, and ensure product quality at scale
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with internal electrical engineers, industrial designers, firmware developers, and external manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery
- Mentorship & Guidance: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, sharing knowledge and driving excellence across the mechanical engineering team
- Innovation & Research: Stay on the leading edge of mechanical engineering trends and technologies; identify and implement strategic advancements that keep Tactacam at the forefront of the industry
- Documentation Standards: Review, approve, and oversee the maintenance of comprehensive documentation provided by ODMs, including technical drawings, design specs, BOMs, and validation reports
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience with a strong focus on product development, preferably in consumer electronics or ruggedized outdoor equipment
- Expertise in transitioning products from concept to mass production, including deep experience working closely with contract manufacturers and overseas suppliers
- Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software; experience with FEA, thermal analysis, injection molding, and tolerance stack-up analysis to properly audit partner designs
- Proven track record of solving complex engineering problems through innovative design, rapid iteration, and data-driven decision-making
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize, manage risk, and drive multiple projects to completion in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
