JOB SUMMARY The UX Design Lead is responsible for defining, governing, and executing a unified, scalable UX vision across CDCN’s internal and external digital platforms. This role owns UX strategy, design systems, and user experience standards while contributing hands-on design work as needed. The UX Design Lead ensures consistency, usability, accessibility, and reusability across all product teams and interfaces. This position bridges strategy and execution, translating business needs, technical realities, and user requirements into cohesive, permission-aware, and scalable user interfaces. The role drives the organization’s evolution from fragmented, project-based UX toward a sustainable, atomic, component-driven design system in close partnership with the UI Software Engineering Team Lead. JOB DUTIES - Define and maintain a long-term UX vision and roadmap aligned with organizational strategy and product direction.
- Lead the convergence of internal and external portals toward shared, reusable UI components and patterns using RBAC/ABAC models rather than duplicative interfaces.
- Identify systemic UX debt, inefficiencies, and inconsistencies, and translate them into a prioritized backlog of improvements.
- Advocate for user-centered design principles and ensure UX standards are consistently applied across all product and engineering teams.
- Establish, govern, and evolve a scalable design system based on atomic/molecular design principles, ensuring alignment between design artifacts and implemented UI components.
- Maintain a reusable UI component library and partner with engineering teams to ensure consistent implementation and prevent redundant rebuilds.
- Ensure UX solutions meet accessibility, usability, brand, and consistency standards, aligning with marketing-driven styling guidelines where needed.
- Create UX designs, wireframes, and mockups for new features, enhancements, and remediation initiatives using Figma.
- Translate UX work into clear, actionable user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting documentation for agile delivery teams.
- Own and manage the UI/UX backlog in Azure DevOps, including intake, refinement, story creation, and prioritization aligned with strategic UX goals.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Business Analysts, Engineering, and Marketing to ensure UX intent and design system standards are preserved through delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor’s degree in design, HCI, computer science, information systems, related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 7–10+ years of total UX experience, with:
- 3–5+ years in a senior or lead capacity, including:
- Design systems ownership
- Cross-team UX governance
- Experience designing for enterprise, role-based, or complex workflows
- Accessibility-first (WCAG 2.1+), and user-empathy design
- Expert proficiency with Figma or equivalent enterprise UX tools, including component libraries, variants, auto-layout, and shared libraries.
- Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.1+ accessibility standards and ability to design accessible interfaces by default.
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, and governing reusable design systems, including atomic/molecular design approaches, component lifecycle management, and alignment between UX artifacts and implemented UI.
- Ability to translate UX concepts into actionable user stories, acceptance criteria, and documentation suitable for agile engineering teams.
- Experience working with and extending enterprise UI libraries (e.g., Material, Fluent, Bootstrap), including adapting them to branding and product requirements.
- Working familiarity with HTML and CSS sufficient to understand front-end feasibility, collaborate with engineers, and review implementation for alignment with UX intent (no production coding required).
- Strong systems thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to identify UX debt and opportunities for reuse across platforms.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and cross-team leadership skills.
- A portfolio demonstrating UX systems or component libraries, complex role-based or enterprise workflows, and clear UX decision-making.
- Employees must provide their own reliable internet if working a remote/hybrid position.
- Ability to work flexible and/or extended hours, if needed, to meet job requirements.
