
Position Summary:
The AV Support Specialist is a key member of the Classroom Technology team, responsible for maintaining and supporting AV equipped spaces and the AV technology needs of faculty, staff, and students. This position requires a strong technical background in AV systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional experiences to the campus community.

The Classroom Technology team is responsible for providing direct support for AV technology enhanced spaces at Vanderbilt University. This support includes ensuring maximum technology uptime as well as class/event support, AV technology training for the Vanderbilt University community, and providing AV solutions for programs and events. Our team is comprised of audio-visual professionals and covers over 400 technology enabled spaces in distributed support zones. With a combination of full-time team members and student workers, support is provided to the Vanderbilt University community 7 days a week.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
In-person support of technology enhanced learning spaces (60%):
Respond promptly to service requests, diagnose problems, and implement solutions to minimize downtime and disruption.
Manage reported issues and requests through use of VUIT ITSM tools, effectively.
Provide AV system and associated technology training to faculty, staff, and students.
Serve as a resource to provide AV start up support for classes and events as requested.
Maintenance of technology enhanced learning spaces (30%)
Ensure the proper functioning and performance of AV equipment, including projectors, displays, sound systems, video conferencing equipment, and other AV peripherals through proactive maintenance.
Escalate complex or unusual situations to senior level support or supervisor for guidance.
Provide feedback on room capabilities based upon data gathered from customer feedback and in the field experiences.
AV Production (10%):
Assist with the setup, operation, and teardown of AV equipment for university events, meetings, lectures, and presentations.
Provide lecture capture support in equipped spaces.
Supervisory Relationships:
This is an individual contributor position, reporting administratively and functionally to the Manager for Classroom Technology.
Education and Certifications:
High school diploma is necessary
Associates degree in relevant field preferred
AVIXA CTS certification preferred
Dante Level 1 certification preferred
Experience and Skills:
2 years of experience working with professional AV systems necessary
Relevant experience in higher education preferred
Proficiency with AV technologies, including video conferencing systems (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams), digital signage, and lecture capture systems is necessary
Strong technical skills in troubleshooting AV hardware and software issues with general guidance necessary
Experience with both software and hardware-based conferencing technology is necessary
Basic Knowledge of network topology and AV over IP solutions is preferred
Knowledge and experience with Crestron based hardware is preferred
