The Manager, Systems Engineering at L3Harris oversees a team responsible for designing, developing, integrating, and testing spacecraft buses, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and performance standards.
Responsibilities:
- Provide functional management to a team of spacecraft bus lead engineers, overseeing staffing, resource allocation, and performance evaluations
- Support organizational growth through recruitment, mentoring, and professional development initiatives
- Offer technical guidance on spacecraft bus design, development, and integration, ensuring compliance with mission and industry standards
- Coordinate with internal teams—including systems engineering, payload engineering, and mission operations—to facilitate seamless subsystem integration
- Manage relationships with external bus suppliers, reviewing development work, delivery schedules, and ensuring adherence to technical requirements
- Lead critical design reviews such as PDR, CDR, and TRR to validate design readiness for production and testing phases
- Oversee integration and environmental testing of spacecraft buses, including vibration, thermal vacuum, and EMC testing to validate performance and reliability
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for failure investigations related to spacecraft buses
- Identify and mitigate technical risks by developing contingency plans and ensuring risk management strategies are in place
- Prepare, review, and approve technical documentation, including specifications, interface control documents, and test reports
- Ensure the execution of programs aligns with engineering standards, quality, and schedule requirements, promoting engineering excellence
- Engage in continuous process improvement and innovation to enhance spacecraft bus engineering practices
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree with at least 9 years of relevant experience, or a Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years, or alternatively, 13+ years of experience in lieu of a degree
- Experience working directly with spacecraft bus suppliers and leading technical teams of five or more engineers
- Strong background in spacecraft bus systems, including power, thermal, structures, avionics, propulsion, GNC, C&DH, TT&C, and fault management
- Proficiency in hardware/software integration, testing, troubleshooting, and executing all phases of spacecraft bus programs
- Ability to obtain TS/SCI security clearance
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
- Familiarity with digital engineering tools
- Experience with MBSE
- Experience with spacecraft bus qualification testing
