They are seeking a Principal User Experience Designer to lead design initiatives focused on creating cohesive and scalable customer experiences across their platform capabilities. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, conducting customer research, and mentoring other designers to enhance user-centered design practices.
Responsibilities:
- Lead experience design initiatives and help set strategy by evaluating and identifying the intersection of business needs, customer needs, and technical opportunities, informed by qualitative and quantitative insights
- Provide systems thinking through conception and visualization how different systems (products, platforms) work and fit together — and create frameworks for these
- Partner closely with product management and engineering to translate our goals into unique, cohesive, scalable platform experiences
- Plan and facilitate design-thinking exercises to break through organizational silos and collaboratively solve complex design challenges
- Visualize and prototype intended solutions at various levels of fidelity, from high-level wireframes or mock-ups to conceptual presentations to highly technical documents and diagrams
- Plan and conduct customer research activities and quantitative testing throughout the project lifecycle, including collaborative sessions with customers and development partners to validate designs and make iterative improvements
- Demonstrate thought leadership by engaging with designers throughout the company and beyond to mentor and share best design principles and practices and promote collaboration
- Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure Autodesk remains innovative and competitive beyond our current capabilities
Requirements:
- 8+ years of related professional user experience design and customer research experience
- Exceptional communication, storytelling, and stakeholder alignment skills
- Experience working in agile, cross-functional product teams
- Strong applied expertise in leveraging AI-assisted development and writing tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor) to accelerate ideation, prototyping, implementation, and delivery outcomes
- Strong problem-solving ability, adaptability, and attention to detail in fast-moving environments
- Deep commitment to user-centered design and balancing user and business needs; Expert in UI and human-centered design principles, with extensive knowledge and experience applying various techniques throughout the design process
