The Associate Director, Fellowship and Residency Programs role focuses on training, educating, and integrating AbbVie’s advanced ophthalmic technologies into teaching institutions, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and proficiency in new techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Attend surgeries and clinical cases until surgeons and fellows are proficient and confident in performing procedures
- Conduct comprehensive wet lab procedural training at designated institutions
- Support surgical and clinical cases to introduce and update techniques, aiming to improve surgical outcomes continually
- Educate PGY3-4 residents, Glaucoma and Retina fellows, and attending faculty about MIGS, Interventional Glaucoma technology, and evolving treatment paradigms
- Train clinic staff and physicians to identify ideal patient profiles for AbbVie technologies
- Collaborate with departmental heads, including Academic Chairs and Program Directors, to identify and address educational needs related to AbbVie products annually
- Assist hospital administrators and material managers in obtaining approval for AbbVie technologies within their facilities
- Coordinate with surgeons and staff alongside Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) or Field Reimbursement Managers (FRMs) to facilitate proper reimbursement and medical inquiries
- Organize and lead training sessions with residents, fellows, clinic staff, and surgeons to promote awareness and adoption of AbbVie technologies
- Support and participate in educational symposiums and meetings sponsored by accounts
- Attend and actively engage in ophthalmic conferences and symposia throughout the year
- Identify, develop, and nurture relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in ophthalmology
- Facilitate the transition of graduating residents and fellows into the sales network by connecting them with appropriate representatives
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with a preferred focus in Science, Business, or Marketing
- 4-8 years of experience in the medical device industry, specifically within surgical ophthalmology
- Experience in ophthalmic surgical procedures and buy-and-bill processes
- Familiarity with MIGS (Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery) and Retina surgical sales
- Willing and able to travel approximately 50-70% of the time
- Strong public speaking skills
- Proven track record of exceeding goals
- Ability to build and maintain relationships at all organizational levels
- Familiarity with customer tracking software such as CRM or Veeva
- Ability to work within budgets and adhere to procedures
- Prior experience working within ophthalmic teaching environments
- Experience in pre-commercial launch markets
- Experience in developing new technology markets
