The Senior Database Support Engineer will support various critical database platforms, ensuring their availability, performance, and reliability while collaborating closely with application teams and database engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Provide operational support for enterprise database platforms in on-premises, private cloud, and public cloud environments
- Monitor database health, capacity, performance, and availability, respond to alerts, diagnose issues, and perform timely remediation
- Perform routine maintenance activities such as patching, upgrades, and housekeeping
- Troubleshoot database‑related incidents and collaborate on root cause analysis
- Work closely with application owners, support teams, and database engineers
- Provide guidance on database best practices and operational standards
- Participate in problem resolution and continuous improvement initiatives
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and testing of automation and self-service capabilities for database platforms
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to reduce toil and increase platform efficiency
- Participate in a 24/7 global support model, including shift‑based coverage and handoffs
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field
- 10+ years of experience in database administration and infrastructure engineering
- Strong experience delivering services on multiple database technologies such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and/or Sybase
- Strong knowledge of cloud‑based database services including AWS Aurora, RDS DB, EC2, EBS, and/or S3
- Hands-on expertise with scripting using PowerShell, Korn Shell, Python, or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of observability tooling and operational monitoring design
- Ability to troubleshoot under pressure with strong ownership and an accountability mindset
- Ability to work effectively across time zones and cross-functional teams
- Excellent communication skills with a passion for building scalable, reliable, self-service platforms
