TDS Gift Cards, a division of Ziff Davis, is a leading platform solution for global Prepaid/Gift Card processing and program management. They are seeking an Associate Solutions Engineer to bridge the gap between product requirements and technical execution, focusing on internal tool development, data operations, and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain internal tools and scripts to automate manual business processes using Python
- Maintain and migrate existing legacy workflows (previously built in Retool) toward more robust, code-based solutions (e.g., Django or Python scripts)
- Develop scripts to interact with internal and external APIs for data retrieval and system updates
- Build and monitor data pipelines (ETL) to ensure accurate data flow between systems
- Write complex SQL queries to extract, manipulate, and validate data for internal stakeholders and client reporting
- Assist in the implementation and management of orchestration tools (experience with Airflow is a major plus)
- Serve as a technical escalation point for data anomalies and system bugs
- Proactively monitor foundational systems (using tools like New Relic) to identify issues before they impact clients
- Investigate root causes of technical incidents by digging into logs, databases, and code
- Work closely with Product Managers to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications
- Collaborate with the Engineering team to ensure local tools align with the broader architecture
Requirements:
- B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field
- 1–2 years of experience in a technical role (e.g. Junior Data & Tools Engineer, Data Analyst, Support Engineer or Junior Developer)
- Portfolio or GitHub examples of personal projects are highly valued
- Strong SQL Proficiency: Must be able to write complex queries, joins, and aggregations to analyze big data and validate system health
- Python Proficiency: Experience using Python for data manipulation (Pandas), automation, or API interaction
- Exceptional Problem Solving: A 'detective' mindset with the ability to troubleshoot issues across different layers of the stack
- Communication: Strong verbal and written skills; able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Agile Familiarity: Experience with JIRA and agile workflows
- Bias for Action: Self-motivated with a track record of appropriate urgency and follow-through
- Familiarity with ETL concepts; exposure to Airflow is a significant plus
- Knowledge of Django or Flask is a strong plus
- Familiarity with Retool is helpful for understanding legacy tools, but not required for future builds
