Industrial Electric Mfg. (IEM) is the largest independent full-line manufacturer of custom power distribution systems in North America. The Senior Regulatory Engineer - Electrical Distribution will be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant industry regulations for electrical distribution product lines, providing technical guidance, and collaborating with various engineering teams to support certification and design decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Provide authoritative interpretation of applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, UL, CSA, ANSI/IEEE C37.20) and translate requirements into clear, actionable guidance for cross-functional engineering teams
- Serve as a lead technical resource to R&D, Product Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and Manufacturing on standards-driven design decisions and compliance pathways
- Act as the primary technical interface with UL and other NRTLs, defining certification approaches, supporting testing and evaluation activities, and maintaining product listings and certifications
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure new product designs, design changes, and component substitutions align with applicable standards and certification requirements, supporting continuity of supply
- Interpret changes to codes and standards, assess applicability to IEM products, and provide recommendations, training, and reference materials to compliance leadership and other stakeholders as needed
- Develop training and educational materials related to codes and standards for internal and external teams as needed
Requirements:
- Strong technical understanding of codes and standards applicable to electrical distribution equipment, including UL 1558, UL 891, UL 1008, UL 67, IEEE C37.20, and related standards
- Hands-on experience with product testing, certification, and listing processes through UL and/or other NRTLs
- Ability to interpret ambiguous or evolving standards and apply them pragmatically to real-world product designs
- Constructive problem-solving skills to address technical and regulatory challenges
- Demonstrated success collaborating across multidisciplinary, cross-functional teams
- Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Word and Excel
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical or scientific discipline
- 3–5 years of experience in regulatory compliance or product certification within an electrical manufacturing environment
- Direct experience working with UL and/or other NRTLs on product certifications
- Experience supporting engineering or R&D teams on standards-driven design decisions is strongly preferred
- Experience with UL or CSA Field Inspections or Field Evaluations is a plus
- Experience with UL STP's is a plus
