
The head lifeguard handles overseeing the aquatic area and providing work direction to staff while on duty. This individual responds to incidents, emergencies and interacts with parents and participants. The individual provides an elevated level of guest service and ensures the safety of the guests and team members and a positive environment. As a head lifeguard, it is expected that they uphold themselves to a standard that allows others to look towards them for guidance and leadership. It is expected that all head lifeguards respect one another, and work as a team. Clear, and respectful communication is necessary to have an effective team effort. This allows consistency in expectation with the lifeguards being overseen. Ensures that they are performing all job duties in compliance with all rules and regulations and that all company expectations are supported.
Maintains constant surveillance of guests and team members in the facility.
Acts at once and appropriately to secure the safety of guests in case of an emergency and serves as first level contact responding and documenting incidents which may occur when other lifeguard staff need help.
May provide and or help with implementation of in-service trainings sessions.
Aids with keeping a safe aquatic area, which may include providing work direction to staff, providing real time feedback, and noting suggestions and comments for their manager’s review.
Coordinates lifeguard placement and rotations during shift to ensure efficient guarding and safety.
To present a professional appearance and attitude always and keep a high standard of guest service.
Exhibits ability to effectively deal with internal and external guests and team members, of whom will require prominent levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger, collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
Excellent people management skills including resolving conflict, coaching, and developing others, promoting teamwork, and performance.
Performs various maintenance duties as directed to keep a clean and safe environment.
Performs other duties as assigned by management.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
Monitors all relevant activities of the department, to ensure that all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and controls of the organization are understood and enforced by departmental personnel.
Performs all duties per company team member handbook, objectives of the Otoe Missouria Tribe, internal policies, procedures, and controls, as well as applicable laws.
Maintains the Departmental Shift log(s) reviewing and noting any unusual occurrences, incidents, equipment failures, safety issues, disputes, etc.
Judgment/Decision Making
Forms opinions and makes decisions based on information and the identification of available facts. Makes decisions or draws conclusions using available data and from experience. Avoid situations that could be considered illegal or represent a safety hazard to fellow team members or guests.
Communications
Makes effort to keep informed of company information and communications by reviewing property bulletin boards, departmental log/shift reports, departmental/company emails, signage, and company newsletter.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability needed. Individuals must be at least 18 years of age.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Prefer two years’ experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified. CPR Certified, current certification as a lifeguard by a recognized source of training.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Must be punctual and dependable in reporting to work as scheduled and completing assigned tasks.
Must be able to work both indoors and out and be exposed to prevalent weather.
Must keep lifeguard certification level of physical and mental readiness.
Must be able to visually see all sections and assigned zone or area of responsibility.
Must be able to adequately hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
Must have the ability to still be alert and keep concentration for extended periods of time to ensure safety of guests.
Must be able to show initiative in the absence of supervision and supervise group effort on the opening and closing cleaning duties and completion.
Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
Read, write, and speak the English language. Read professional publications, memos, emails, logs, newsletters, and documents.

Perform assigned tasks under supervision. Follow written and verbal instructions.
Establish and keep positive relationships with executive level management, other managerial and supervisory staff, and other Team Members. Work well alone or within a team.

Must be willing and able to work, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department.
Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of the job, the Team Member must regularly talk or listen. The Team Member must also regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Must be able to climb multiple flights of stairs. Swim 50 yards in 4 ft. water and retrieve 10 lbs. from bottom of water. The Team Member must occasionally reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The Team Member must be able to lift at least 20 lbs. and push, pull or drag up to 50 lbs. and up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a Team Member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Team Member must be able to work in a humid, warm, and chlorinated environment and be immersed in water for extended periods of time. The Team Member is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particulates, including second-hand environmental smoke. The noise level in the work environment is mostly loud. The Team Member may be exposed to heat and cold and all-weather conditions depending on department area. The Team Member may rarely be exposed to the risks associated in trying to resolve issues with irate or difficult people.
