Ulteig is currently seeking a talented and motivated Design Engineer to support dynamic power system studies within the Renewables – Electrical department. This role focuses on developing and testing renewable energy models, performing dynamic system studies, and collaborating with clients to meet grid and compliance requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Develop PSSE, PSLF, TSAT and PSCAD models of renewable plants
- Perform model quality tests and model benchmarking for various software models
- Understand dynamic model block diagrams and tune parameters to meet regional model performance requirements
- Support interconnection applications; tasks include preliminary plant design, assemble simple preliminary drawings, and completing application forms with design information
- Conduct some preliminary system studies, like reactive power studies
- Work closely with the developer clients to understand their needs, deadlines, changes in design and address feedback from the system operator/transmission owner
- Understand and stay apprised of updates with various regional requirements for interconnection applications, processes, deadlines and queue schedules
- Respond quickly to customer design changes, questions and deadlines, and maintain a flexible attitude towards the work
- Stay current with regulatory changes, new grid codes, and evolving ISO/RTO requirements related to grid interconnections
- Conduct voltage and frequency ride through studies, and support model validation for renewable projects to support NERC compliance standards
- Stay up to date on new industry guidance and standards for modeling and NERC compliance for relevant technologies
- Help develop tools to automate and streamline model quality tests and analyses
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required, ABET accredited program, or equivalent required
- A minimum of 2 years of working experience, with at least 1 years of experience directly related to power systems
- Experience with steady-state analysis and/or dynamic analysis utilizing PSS®E and PSCAD
- Independently completes assigned tasks required
- Actively manages individual workload, adapts to changing requirements, maintains flexibility
- Must be a self-starter and willing to identify improvements and implement them, utilizing support from others
- Must be comfortable asking questions to team when learning new skills
- Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude
- Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, clients and external agencies
- Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement
- Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S
- Prior experience working with/for transmission system operators/transmission owners (ERCOT, PJM, MISO, CAISO, etc.)
- Experience with PSCAD, PSLF and TSAT modeling
- Experience with programming in Python
