Senior AI Scientist – Planning

Avathon is a physical AI unicorn headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, focused on deploying AI that computes across supply chains, energy systems, and industrial operations. The Senior AI Scientist role involves overseeing key accounting functions, managing day-to-day operations, and ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP while contributing to AI-driven projects that drive real change across industries.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal policies, and established internal controls
• Apply ASC 606 revenue recognition principles, including reviewing customer contracts, identifying performance obligations, supporting revenue schedules, and ensuring accurate and timely revenue reporting
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, balance sheets, and profit and loss reports to support management decision-making and financial transparency
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
• Maintain general ledger accounts and supporting documentation, ensuring accuracy and audit readiness while supporting external audit and tax preparation processes
• Partner cross-functionally with Program Management, Sales, Legal, and Finance teams to ensure accurate contract interpretation, billing alignment, and consistent application of revenue recognition policies
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, enhance documentation, and strengthen internal controls to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
