GE Vernova is seeking a Senior Project Manager to oversee large, high-visibility high-voltage substation projects within North America. The role involves managing project execution, ensuring alignment across teams, and maintaining strong customer relationships while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end execution of large HV substation projects from contract award through engineering, manufacturing, FAT, delivery, installation, commissioning, and closeout
- Serve as the primary customer-facing leader responsible for overall project performance, communication, and satisfaction
- Translate customer requirements into detailed project execution plans; drive all internal stakeholders including engineering, factories, sourcing, and quality to meet contractual milestones
- Develop and maintain the project schedule, ensuring alignment with factory loading, material availability, and customer milestones
- Represent GRID in customer program governance involving multiple GE Vernova businesses (e.g., Gas Power, Grid, etc), ensuring alignment on schedules, interfaces, risks, and reporting
- Work closely with the GE Vernova teams to ensure unified communication, consolidated risk management, and coordinated delivery of all GE scopes within the overall customer program
- Responsible for project Contribution Margin, forecasting accuracy, and margin protection across the full lifecycle
- Lead Variation Orders, scope changes, claims, and commercial negotiations with support from the Contract Manager and PMO
- Track project budgets, commitments, and Estimate at Completion (EAC), ensuring timely financial reporting, variance mitigation, and adherence to financial targets with support from Project Control Team
- Drive engineering release, design coordination, document approvals, and technical validation to enable timely Order Entry and factory slot allocation
- Coordinate with multiple GE manufacturing locations to manage production follow-up, FAT planning, NCR resolution, and delivery priorities
- Ensure early escalation to portfolio leadership when factory constraints or supply-chain risks impact customer schedules
- Ensure strict adherence to EHS and Quality standards across all project activities, including FATs and site interfaces
- Identify project risks, develop mitigation plans, establish contingency strategies, and track trigger events throughout execution
- Drive NCR resolution, corrective/preventive actions, and lessons learned across the portfolio
- Build and maintain strategic customer relationships with utilities, EPCs, developers, and other project stakeholders
- Provide transparent reporting, early escalation, and consistent communication to maintain alignment and trust
- Lead customer meetings, milestone reviews, FATs, and project review sessions
- Support tendering activities by validating schedules, costs, manufacturing lead times, and execution risks
- Contribute to the deployment of standardized project management processes, PMO tools, templates, and execution playbooks across the project portfolio
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college
- Minimum 8+ years of experience executing HV substation or high-voltage grid projects
- Proven ability to manage large projects ($30MM+) involving factory-manufactured HV equipment (Transformers, GIS, Breakers, Controls)
- Demonstrated experience in customer-facing project roles with accountability for scope, schedule, cost, and risk
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience leading cross-functional teams (engineering, sourcing, factories, quality, contracts) without direct authority
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally (~25%)
- Experience managing projects involving multiple GE Vernova businesses within a unified customer program
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills, with experience in contractual terms, Variation Orders, and claims management
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong understanding of HV equipment engineering, manufacturing processes, quality standards, and FAT protocols
- Ability to influence senior customer stakeholders and internal executive leadership
- PMI certification (PMP or equivalent)
- Proficiency with Primavera (P6), MS Project, ERP systems, and PMO tools
