The Mechanical Construction Superintendent is responsible for the on-site management and execution of mechanical construction projects, including piping systems, HVAC installations, plumbing systems, process equipment setting, and mechanical utilities. This role ensures all field activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with mechanical design documents, project specifications, and industry standards. As the primary on‑site leader, the Superintendent directs field crews, coordinates subcontractors, oversees quality and productivity, and maintains strong communication with the Project Manager and client representatives.
- Manage and direct Project Foreman
- Attend all project hand-off meetings with the Project Manager, Estimator and Project Engineers, reviewing blueprints, specifications, materials, equipment, budgets, schedules and manpower.
- Project manpower needs based on the project schedule and bid hours
- Attend Project Review Meetings
- Review all projects on a weekly basis with Project Managers, reviewing all budgetary and actual line items. Discuss project in detail and make any necessary changes to personnel or schedule to increase field productivity
- Facilitate meetings with Project Foremen on a weekly basis to review budgets, including labor (budget vs actual), materials (budget vs actual), project schedule, and project milestones
- Analyze and maintain a 2 to 3 week forecast of manpower and material needs for each project
- Identify and discuss with Project Foremen any additional work beyond contractual scope and deliver in detail to the Project Manager as Additional Work Authorization or Change Order, including additional needs for material and manpower
- Complete an internal walk-through of each project site when complete. Take the necessary corrective actions to resolve any findings before a final walk-through
- Verify that all installed piping, ductwork, equipment, and supports meet design, alignment, tolerance, and weld quality requirements
- Promote and enforce safety. Verify daily PPE is being used by all employees at all times
- Report all injuries and/or near misses to the Safety Manager
- Notify Safey Manager of risks or safety concerns
- Verify Project Foremen conduct weekly safety meetings with crew and acquire signatures from attendees
- Verify Project Foremen secure jobsite at the end of each day; lock down tools; secure assets, equipment, gang boxes, etc.
- Hold all site workers, including Foremen and crew accountable to keep job sites clean and clear of unnecessary trash and clutter
- Evaluate Foremen and deliver detailed performance reports when requested
- Assist Foremen with evaluating journeymen, and subcontractors and deliver detailed performance reports when requested
- Quality Control all assigned projects. Compare specifications and drawings to work in-progress and completed work. Complete Site Observations Reports for each project, at minimum twice every month, or as needed. Submit completed reports to the Project Engineer
- Complete documentation and conduct “redirection” sessions with Project Foremen for reprimands of inappropriate behavior, sub-standard performance, poor quality, etc. not following company policies or procedures, as needed, obtaining employee signature. Notify Project Manager and Human Resources
- Other duties as assigned
Skills & Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience supervising mechanical construction projects (industrial, commercial, or process piping).
- Experience with piping fabrication, process plant equipment, industrial HVAC systems, and equipment setting.
- Successfully managed 3-5 projects concurrently
- Proven to successfully manage schedules, budget and driving projects through finish
- Capable of reading blueprints and specifications
- Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient at MS Office including Excel and Word
- Blue Beam experience required
- Superior organizational and time management skills
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred
- Must be detail oriented
- Able to work independently or as part of a team
- Must possess the ability to multitask
- OSHA 30 Certification required

This position is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand, as necessary.
