Staffing Science is a fast-growing, product-driven startup in the developer infrastructure space, seeking a Vice President of Engineering. The role involves leading a globally distributed engineering organization while acting as a technical authority on architecture, infrastructure, and AI-driven product capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and scale a global engineering org of ~40 engineers across platform, infrastructure, and product
- Act as a technical partner to platform/infra teams, contributing to architecture decisions across distributed systems and global compute
- Bring structure and execution rigor to a high-velocity engineering environment without slowing innovation
- Drive best practices across platform engineering, DevOps, and Kubernetes-based systems
- Partner with product to align engineering efforts with company strategy, including AI-driven product initiatives
- Evaluate and evolve the company’s infrastructure to support scalable, AI-enabled workloads and applications
- Balance feature velocity with reliability, performance, and infrastructure maturity
- Build and maintain a strong engineering culture focused on ownership, craftsmanship, and accountability
- Hire and develop top-tier engineering talent across backend, frontend, and infrastructure
- Ensure systems are built for global scale, performance, and extensibility
- Stay close enough to the technology to credibly challenge decisions and guide technical direction
Requirements:
- Must be US Citizen or Green Card Holder
- Must have VP or Director of Engineering experience within Series A–C startups and a background in developer tooling, developer infrastructure, or developer platforms
- Strong software engineering fundamentals
- Deep expertise in platform engineering, DevOps, Kubernetes, and modern infrastructure systems
- Clear track record of leaning into AI and building or supporting AI-powered products
- 5+ years in VP or Director-level engineering leadership roles in Series A–C startups
- Experience leading and scaling distributed engineering teams (20+ engineers)
- Proven ability to bring structure to ambiguity while maintaining speed
- Strong background as a software engineer earlier in career (you've built real systems)
- Deep expertise in Platform Engineering
- Deep expertise in DevOps / Infrastructure
- Deep expertise in Kubernetes & container orchestration
- Deep expertise in Distributed systems architecture
- Experience working in developer platforms, dev tooling, or infrastructure products
- Hands-on exposure to AI/ML-powered products or platforms
- Experience integrating or building AI-driven features
- Experience integrating or building LLM-based systems
- Experience integrating or building Data/compute infrastructure supporting AI workloads
- Strong understanding of how AI is shaping developer platforms and infrastructure
- Ideally has helped bring an AI product or AI capabilities to market
- Excellent written communication (async-first culture: Slack, docs, etc.)
- Strong product mindset with the ability to connect infrastructure decisions to end-user impact
- High standards, low ego, and the ability to influence at all levels
- Ideally, also have worked in the open source space
- Open Source background - building products for the open source community
