Life360 is a remote-first company focused on keeping families connected through its mobile app and tracking devices. They are seeking a Principal Product Manager for Platform to drive the strategy and ensure the platform's reliability and performance as they scale to serve millions of users.
Responsibilities:
- Get ahead of growth, not behind it. Identify where the platform will break before it does and build the fault tolerance and capacity buffers to make sure it doesn't
- Set the standard. Define company-wide platform KPIs — SLOs, SLAs, error budgets — that give product and engineering teams the confidence to ship fast without second-guessing the foundation beneath them
- Make incidents a non-event. Own the roadmap for incident management, disaster recovery, and business continuity so that platform disruptions never become a ceiling on product velocity
- Make the invisible visible. Drive the observability and telemetry roadmap so every team has real-time instrumentation into system health and no one ships into the dark
- Hunt systemic risk. Partner with engineering leadership to surface and mitigate the structural risks that constrain growth before they affect the millions of families who depend on us
- Embed reliability into how we build. Establish performance and reliability as first-class product requirements, not afterthoughts
- Translate platform complexity into decisions. Turn platform health data and infrastructure realities into sharp narratives: what's slowing us down, what we need for the next order of magnitude, and where to place the bets now
- Build muscle, not just the plan. Establish rituals such as post-mortems, game days, capacity planning to make reliability a cultural practice, not a reactive one
Requirements:
- 10+ years of product management experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior or principal-level role with cross-functional scope
- Proven track record working on platform, infrastructure, or developer-facing problems at a fast-growing consumer technology company
- Ability to cut through noise and focus on what matters
- Familiarity with reliability engineering concepts: SLOs/SLAs/SLIs, error budgets, on-call processes, incident response, and observability tooling
- Experience driving alignment across large, matrixed engineering organizations on initiatives
- Strong analytical skills and comfort utilizing quantitative data and other signals to define what good looks like and hold the bar there
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to distill complex technical concepts into clear business priorities for diverse audiences
- High degree of ownership and bias for action; you don't wait to be asked, you identify the problem and mobilize the right people to solve it
- Well-versed and opinionated on the intersection of consumer technology and security, privacy, trust, and compliance
- Experience with large-scale mobile or consumer applications serving hundreds of millions of users is a strong plus
