
Occupational Summary
To contribute, engage with, manage and grow strategically targeted communities, such as parents and alumni, to enhance and promote Newman University. Manage community communications across multiple digital channels. To create engaging content for multiple communities and social media accounts.
This position is designed for a tech-savvy professional, with experience in social media, public relations, promotional events and event promotions. It will collaborate with the University Relations team members to help create, distribute and engage the community in impactful storytelling. This position also works together with teammates to develop strategies, plans or tactics based on insights gathered from interactions with community members.
In addition, this position monitors and reports on engagement of digital content, organizes, and participates in events to build community and boost brand awareness.
The Digital Community Specialist reports to the Director of University Relations and works closely with the Digital Content team and collaborates with members of the University Relations and Institutional Advancement departments (including video communication specialist, web technology specialist, senior graphic designer, and alumni relations director)
Work Performed
1. Collaborate with the Director of University Relations and Vice President for Institutional Advancement to develop and implement successful, purpose driven community strategies.
2. Collaborate with the Director of University Relations and Digital Content Specialist to set and implement social media and communication campaigns to align with marketing strategies.
3. Provide engaging text, image, and video content for social media accounts.
4. Engage with, respond to, and gather insights from community members.
5. Monitor and report on feedback and online reviews.
6. Organize and participate in events to build community and boost brand awareness.
7. Coordinate with the University Relations team to ensure brand consistency.
8. Build relationships with community members, potential community members, industry professionals and journalists.
9. Stay up to date with digital technology trends.
10. Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
1. BS degree in Marketing or relevant field.
2. Must be collaborative.
3. Proven work experience as a social media specialist or coordinator and/or community specialist or coordinator.
4. Experience launching community initiatives (e.g., building an online forum, launching an ambassador program, creating an event series and writing an email newsletter).
5. Ability to identify and track relevant engagement metrics.
6. Excellent verbal communication skills.
7. Excellent writing skills.
8. Direct experience with social media management for brands.
9. Ability to interpret website traffic and online customer engagement metrics.
10. Knowledge of online marketing and marketing channels.
11. Must be self-starter, detail oriented and have an ability to multitask.
12. Ability to perform basic photography, video, editing, and graphic design.
