Novitium Energy, a National Energy Partners Company, is seeking a driven and analytically rigorous Business Development and Analytics Manager to grow their pipeline of microgrid and distributed energy projects. This role involves owning the full business development lifecycle for microgrid opportunities and leading the development of analytics frameworks to improve project economics and decision-making across the team.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, develop, and close microgrid project opportunities with C&I, municipal, and utility customers across target markets
- Lead the full sales cycle from prospecting and qualification through proposal, negotiation, and contract execution
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline of distributed energy projects, with disciplined CRM tracking and accurate forecasting
- Represent Novitium Energy at industry conferences, utility forums, and customer meetings
- Build, maintain, and continuously improve project financial models in Excel, Xendee, Energy Toolbase, and Helioscope to support proposals, investment decisions, and scenario planning
- Develop and manage analytics dashboards and datasets that track pipeline performance, market trends, project economics, and BD team KPIs
- Conduct load profile analysis, utility bill analysis, and tariff modeling to identify optimal system sizing, dispatch strategies, and customer savings
- Perform sensitivity and scenario analyses on key variables—energy prices, incentive levels, demand charge rates, battery degradation—to stress-test project economics
- Use data analysis to identify high-value market segments, target customer profiles, and geographic opportunity clusters
- Synthesize complex data into clear, compelling visualizations and narratives for customer presentations and executive reporting
- Scope and conceptually design microgrid systems integrating solar PV, battery energy storage (BESS), backup generation, and advanced controls
- Develop project financial models including NPV, IRR, payback, and lifecycle savings analysis, with full sensitivity testing for customer proposals
- Evaluate and apply demand response programs, capacity market revenues, utility incentives, and state/federal rebates to optimize project economics
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop technical proposals, single-line diagrams, and preliminary system specifications
- Negotiate commercial terms with technology suppliers, EPC subcontractors, financing partners, and utility counter parties
- Structure and manage strategic partnerships with equipment vendors, installers, and co-developers
- Drive continuous improvement of BD processes, tools, templates, and playbooks to increase team velocity and win rates
- Leverage AI productivity tools and platforms to accelerate research, proposal development, customer outreach, and competitive analysis
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience selling and/or designing microgrid or distributed energy projects that include battery energy storage systems (BESS)
- Demonstrated track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder energy projects from $500K to $10M+
- Hands-on expertise in financial modeling using Excel-based models, Xendee, Energy Toolbase, and/or Helioscope; ability to build models from scratch, not just populate templates
- Strong data analytics skills including load profile analysis, utility bill decomposition, tariff modeling, and multi-scenario sensitivity analysis
- Experience building or managing analytics dashboards and reporting tools to track pipeline, project performance, and market trends
- Familiarity with demand response markets, grid services, capacity markets, and related regulatory frameworks (e.g., FERC Order 2222, state DR programs)
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Power Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Management, Business, Finance, or a related field
- Equivalent professional experience in lieu of formal degree will be considered
- Actively uses Claude AI for business development tasks including proposal drafting, financial analysis, market research, and customer communications; experience building or deploying Claude-based agents or workflows is strongly preferred
- Proficient in data analysis and visualization tools such as Excel (advanced), Power BI, or Tableau; Python or SQL experience is a plus
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to navigate supplier, partner, and customer commercial discussions simultaneously
- Highly organized with a process-oriented mindset; experience developing and implementing repeatable BD and analytics workflows
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to translate complex data and technical concepts into clear insights for non-technical audiences
- Self-starter who can manage multiple opportunities and analytics workstreams independently while collaborating across internal teams
- Experience with community microgrids, resilience hubs, or campus/military microgrid projects
- Knowledge of interconnection processes, utility tariffs, and net energy metering (NEM) policies
- Familiarity with energy storage incentive programs including ITC/IRA storage credits, SGIP, and NYSERDA programs
- Experience with project finance structures including tax equity, C-PACE, or power purchase agreements (PPAs)
- Experience using Python, SQL, or R for energy data analysis, automated reporting, or model automation
- Familiarity with interval meter data analysis, AMI data platforms, or utility data APIs
- Active industry relationships with utilities, ESCOs, or C&I energy customers
