If you’re someone who cares deeply about community wellbeing, thrives in a people focused environment, and leads with calm confidence, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the heart of Rotorua. Rotorua Lakes Council is seeking a Team Lead – Safe City Guardian to guide a dedicated team working to enhance safety, visibility, and manaakitanga across our inner city.
As Team Lead, you’ll manage the daily deployment of the Safe City Guardian team and act as a key connection point between Council, Police, Māori Wardens, emergency services, and other partner agencies. Your leadership will help ensure our city centre feels welcoming, safe, and supported for residents, businesses, and visitors.
This is a hands on role where you’ll be out in the community, providing guidance to your team, engaging with the public, and responding to emerging issues. You’ll work from the Inner City Community Safety Hub, helping to foster a positive reputation for Rotorua and the Safe City Guardian service.
You will allocate daily tasks, provide coaching and guidance, and help build capability within your team. Foster a positive, supportive, safety first culture where everyone feels valued and motivated. Experience in security, compliance, or customer facing roles is an advantage, as is knowledge of the Rotorua CBD and surrounding areas.
This role involves being on your feet for long periods, working outdoors in all weather, and engaging with a wide range of people, often in challenging situations. You’ll need to be adaptable, organised, and able to communicate clearly and calmly.
At Rotorua Lakes Council, we work as one community and one team. We believe in empowering our people, supporting your growth, and giving you the tools you need to make a meaningful impact. If you’re someone who leads with integrity and is motivated to make a difference in the community, we’d love to hear from you.
